We’re friends on facebook and I’m one of your co-reformers with The Reformation Project. It’s really good to know someone else has had the same doubts about our position yet came to the same ultimate conclusion, and it’s also awesome there’s another Reformed Baptist in the group 🙂 Looking forward to meeting you in September.

I do hope we cross paths in BKK again too! I’m long due for a visit back home. I’d love to swap stories, catch up, and see you perform at one of your jazz gigs I keep seeing pictures of on facebook!

Beautifully written! Powerful and so faith-filled! In many ways, your story reflects my journey from Christianity to faith as well, and I’m only just learning to be more vocal about it. Thanks for this wonderful love letter. I do hope we get a chance to share a somtam and green tea sometime if you’re ever in Bangkok. We have so much to catch up on!

You have no idea how much our conversation on the couch that day before you left has impacted my journey! You introduced me to the possibility that there might be other Christians who were willing to grapple with the deeper questions and acknowledge that perhaps the answers aren’t as clear cut as we once believed.

David – Welcome to the communion of the heretics! We’re happy to have you!

Seriously, thank you so much for sharing a part of your journey. As RR said – it’s truly a blessing.

Having grown up in a pretty conservative congregation, I have a heart for the gay kid in the front pew. No kid should be made to feel less-than, deeply flawed, and unworthy of even the possibility of intimacy; I know how damaging the judgement and condemnation that flows from conservative interpretations of scripture can be. It sounds like you know that hurt all too well.

Your story carries so much hope for the Church. The community you describe sounds absolutely amazing. So, I have to disagree: you didn’t walk away from Christianity…for whenever two or more are gathered…

RR – hoping to hear great news from your great state later. Thinking of you today.

My best to you both!
Ford

I stand by you fully in your decision to leave a place that would not and could not understand, and rejoice in the freedom and joy you’re encountering on the frontiers of faith.

This may not make sense, but I feel like I resonate so much with your frustration at the church as I’ve been processing my traumatic experience briefly serving overseas and being victimized by spiritual leaders who ostensibly had my best interests at heart. I don’t know if I even belong in a church anymore — sitting through Acts 29 sermons gives me post-traumatic flashbacks, I’m sick of their attitude toward so many things, and disillusioned with the lack of love and empathy. I’m trying to figure out what reconstruction of my faith will look like, in the context of a different spiritual tradition.

I stand with you. I love that we had the opportunity to do life together for a season. I can’t wait to see what direction God will take you on this journey.
